Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Napa Valley Nursery School (NVNS). We are excited about our school, and we think you will be too!

If you are early in your exploration of co-operative nursery schools, please review our Co-op FAQ to ensure our program and participation requirements are a good fit for your family. The co-op model relies on active family involvement beyond a standard preschool experience.

NVNS Family Responsibility Overview

Participating in a co-op requires time and effort from every family.

Below is a breakdown of the core responsibilities:

Classroom Commitments

  • Workdays: Work in the classroom an average of 2–3 days per month for Tuesday/Thursday classes, or 3–4 days per month for Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes.

  • On Call-Days: Serve as the on-call working adult approximately 1 day per month.

  • Classroom Snacks: Provide healthy snacks for the class on a rotating basis (typically 4–6 times per school year).

  • School Job: Hold and execute one designated school job for the academic year.

  • Parent Meetings: Attend monthly parent meetings

  • Housekeeping Saturday: Participate in 1 scheduled “Housekeeping Saturday” work event per school year.

  • End-of-Year Cleanup: Complete one 2-hour work shift during the end-of-year school cleanup.

  • School Operations & Maintenance

Joining the Wait List

  • Cost: Free with no obligation.

  • Timing: Add your child as early as possible after birth

  • Updates: Children remain on the list until they are age-eligible and enrollment completes for that school year. Please inform us of any contact information changes or if you wish to be removed.

  • Parent Information Night, Open Houses and Tour: Wait list families are invited to our annual Parent Information Night, Open Houses and Tours held in early spring.

Age Eligibility

  • Requirement:
    • TTH Class: Children must turn 2 years old by June of the following school year.
    • MWF Class: Children must turn 3 years old by June of the following school year.
    • Potty Training is NOT required.
  • School Year: Our school year runs from mid-September through May.

Enrollment Process & Priority

Enrollment for the upcoming school year begins in Spring and continues through the summer. There are times when openings will arise mid-year due to withdrawals that are also filled from the wait list.

When filling an open spot, offers are extended to the next age-eligible child using the following priority order:

  1. Continuing Current Students and Age-Eligible Siblings
  2. Rejoining Students (left during the school year and returning)
  3. Alumni Families (immediate family member having attended NVNS)
  4. New Families

Note: Within each priority category, spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis according to your wait list date.

What to Expect

Wait list movement varies significantly from year to year depending on category priorities and openings. If you haven’t received an offer in early spring, spots may still become available over the summer or mid-year.
